Stories...

I wanted to share the stories that other members of the Haitz clan have related to me. I cannot confirm or deny their validity, but its fun to tell them anyway. Email me or post your story in the guestbook.

Joan Souder a descendant of Franziskus's son John realted this one to me by email.

According to some notes her mother had written about the family history, Frank left Germany for "political reasons" and traveled to America with two friends, Albert Lang and Joseph Serwna. On the same boat, were two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Germann. The note says that they all met on the boat, that the girls were stow aways. When they reached Boston, Frank and Elizabeth were married, and Mary married Albert Lang. Frank worked in a sugar mill in Boston before they moved here with their family and friends. They settled on lower Eagle Creek on what today is know as Logan's Gap. The note has the name 'Haitz-Shanhow', what that means I do not know. It also has 'German- Clauseon Rhenish', and 'Bavaria'. Some of these names may have been in the German language, as this was given to Joan's Mother by 'Aunt' Anna Serwna, her Grandpa John's older sister. She lived to be a 100, and spoke fluent German.
